Between the Tape: Midland Brings Very Canadian Weather For Pan Ams
For the second year in a row, the Pan American Championships were in the Great White North of Midland, Ontario. With all the American guests, Canada's weather system decided to live up to the stereotype and brought everything from freezing temperatures to rain, snow, and sleet over the course of the weekend.
As Jenn was quick to point out last weekend "it's Jersey season" and, with the Pan Am Jersey on the line, everyone brought their best to the race. Saturday's UCI C2 'warm-up' saw MVDH and Jenn land a pair of matching 4th places. Sunday didn't treat them quite as well and, while both were in sight of the podium for much of the race, they settled for 5th and 6th respectively. Maybe not the result that Mike and Jenn were dreaming up, but solid performances against the best North American has to offer nonetheless. Dylan also managed to land his best results of the season with a 13th and Bridget ended up in 7th for the Junior Women.
THE ATHLETE'S TAKE
“Having both my cycling friends from home and the road made it a busy weekend keeping up with people but also has me leaving with my heart totally full. My legs and energy weren’t totally with me, but still rolling with the lead group both days is enough to cap off a successful fall of racing.” - Jenn Jackson
I wasn’t shy about the fact that I was coming to the Pan Am Championships to try and win and, well, 6th place isn’t quite there. But honestly, I’m content with the race I put in. Yeah, the result isn’t what I wanted, but I put everything I had into it and that’s all I can really ask for. - Michael van den Ham
"The course was primarily about limiting mistakes and pedaling hard in the long sections. I didn't manage the second part amazingly but I'm happy to come back this year and have another solid race in 13th. I didn't make many mistakes and rode aggressively, so I can't ask for much more than that. " - Dylan Postier
