We've upgraded our venerable EA90 SL wheels, dropping weight and increasing strength. Now, for the first time, Easton is making a tubeless ready wheelset. This allows for durable Sapim straight-pull spokes with standard nipples, enhancing durability and reducing the need for proprietary parts. A completely redesigned rim features a category-leading 19.5mm internal rim in a deeper and stiffer 27mm blunt shaped rim that borrows from our aerodynamic Fantom shape. Finally, these battle-tested wheels are centered on our award-winning Echo hubs. This wheelset is completely hand-built and acoustically tuned using Easton's painstaking wheel building methods.

    Bombproof After 6 Years

I bought these around 2017 in North Vancouver at Steed Cycles, primarily for cyclocross racing. They've been raced hard each year since, and used extensively for training and long gravel rides. After all this time, I've never broken a spoke, and had them trued maybe 2 times. I've never needed to get the hubs serviced as each year I open them up I see fresh grease which means water has never got in. I've only got one flat spot on the rear rim, due to a race where I lost all pressure in the back tire and still raced for over 30 minutes on rough terrain. What more could you ask for out of a set of rims? Highly recommended and I would not hesitate to buy these again if needed.

The front rim is still good.

    EA90 SLX rim broke (again)

After 3 years my rear rim broke and I bought a new one, which broke now after 4 years. First front rim is still good, I know: outside the warranty ...

    Cracks developed in the rim

In the fall of 2019, I bought a pair of Easton EA90 SL wheels and put them on my Specialized Roubaix. In the summer of 2021, the rear wheel developed cracks in several spots, where the nipples met the rim. Easton honored the warranty and sent me a replacement wheel. After 14 months of riding with the new wheel, the same thing happened!: cracks at the nipples in the rear wheel. This caused a wobble that couldn’t be fixed and is a safety concern. Rather than seek a replacement wheel from Easton, I bought a wheelset from a different manufacturer.
