Old EA70 ATB REAR WHEEL.

Well I've been ridding this EA70 REAR HUB. IVE BEEN ridding for more than a couple years. Love em. I give her the beans every time I used to ride this wheelset. BUUUUT. I was transporting the rear wheel when all of a sudden I looked at my EA70 REAR WHEEL and the gears were gone. Some how the gears popped of . WHAT THE ****. To my disappoinment it had came off when it was tied to my back pack. And I had the tube changed. I called Easton and spoke to rep. From Easton and said yes the cassette does come off that easy. I thought are you kidding. If I would have known that!!!!!! I would have zip tied the cassette on to the spokes so it didn't do do that. Ha ha. I said do do. Smurgen. Any way I still love this wheelset to death do we part. Call me . I'm Mike at [****] for BIKE MIKE. OR email me at [****].

Probably the best Alloy Gravel Wheelset for the money.

I just got this wheelset in 650b for my 2016 Ritchey Ascent frameset. I already have an EA70 Stem and Seatpost. These wheels were a massive upgrade from an OEM set of tubeless alloy wheels. Dropped 1.3 lbs of rolling weight, while adding compliance and control. So much more comfortable along with the added benefit of pushing around a lot less mass. Spins up faster and stops fater too. The brakes feel more responsive. It also feels like I gained at least a gear and don't need to downshift as much on climbs.

4 Stars because they don't come with a Centerlock Lock Ring. You have to buy a thru-axle CL lockring.

They're Okay

There are not too many options for 650b and having QR f&r so I thought I would give these a try as I know Easton as a reputable brand.

The hits: top notch build quality, double butted straight pull spokes(some extras provided), CenterLock, QR adapters included and also tubeless valves. The wheels are relatively lightweight.

The misses: slow engagement, I didn't expect lightening fast engagement given the cost of the wheels, but these are no better than the cheapy wheels the AX's replaced. I found this to be annoying/disappointing on the trail between coasting and pedaling. Silver nipples??, this is on me as I didn't look closely enough comparing, but black nipples would have given this wheelset such a cleaner look and would only be a few dollars at the manufacturing level.

The wheels are a good value especially if you are on a budget and can overlook the misses. I personally would not have bought them knowing what I now know. I bought them and so will continue to use them. In time, I will replace the silver nipples with black ones. I am confident that the wheels will give durable service for many years to come.

Rough bearings and untrue

Not impressed, rough/gritty bearings right out of the box. Could be a symptom of poor hubshell manufacturing tolerances.
Will change the bearings for new ones and see if the issue is still there.

Wheels were untrue, by quite a margin. The front one had a radial runout of almost a full millimeter, you could see it with your eyes when spinning the wheel in the air, the front one had also a milder lateral runout. Rear one was untrue only laterally.

Poor assembly practices, barely, if any, grease on any metal/metal interface, cones and axle for example.

Numerous other brands offer similarly priced wheels that do not suffer from these issues.

Tire install was easy and straightforward, the rim tape provided seems like a good durable one.

Great wheelset

Sturdy but not over built. Compared to my previous WTB Frequency i25 rims, these are much more comfy and absorb the trail chatter. I can actually run a couple psi higher tire pressure and it still feels smoother than the i25s. So far after a few 100s of miles of trail and singletrack, the wheels remain true.
