Easton Overland 2021 Wrapped
Easton Overland 2021 Wrapped
What a year. While we knew 2021 might not be easier to handle than 2020, I’m not sure we were all aware the journey would be this wild. With events changing just days before they happen, travel restrictions popping up, and personal challenges along the way, it was a wild time indeed for the Easton Overland crew.
We're excited to share a few highlights from 2021 that the team put together and introduce an all new member as we head into 2022!
New Kit Day: Castelli x Overland go casual: Supplementing our Race Kit livery, the Casual Kit colorways get toned down a tad for a soft all-over print design that will allowed us to sneak around town with far less paparazzi attention. Overland members Amity Rockwell, Emily Cheng, Caroline Dezendorf and Matt Lieto showed off the kit with a couple fun photoshoots.
All the angles of Unbound from Amity, Adam and Caroline:
Amity Rockwell returned to Unbound after a year on pause and snagged second place in the hotly contested event but knowing her grit and determination, we can expect she has her sights on 1st for 2022.
Faced with uncertainty around competing at Unbound after being hit by a car, Caroline Dezendorf decided to head to the event with a party-pace mindset, paying attention to both her physical and mental health after the crash and living into the experience of the major event, still capturing 15th place despite her injury!
Adam Kachman’s journey at Unbound was captured by the Orbea Pachamama project. He also shares his thoughts on large-scale gravel events and the community around cycling through their project.
Trans Rockies Gravel Royale: Michael van den Ham was lucky enough to preview the event with the Trans Rockies event team. He and Nicholas share the pre-ride in a 4 segment video. While the event itself had to be postponed to 2022 due to Provincial health order, it was still amazing to see the Rockies in a whole new way.
BWR - Can't Win 'em All: Amity shares her headspace and how to keep your resilience when it comes to racing.
Grinduro Canada: Caitlin took to Grinduro Canada and snagged 3rd place overall through all the timed segments (sounds like she may have gotten a little rowdy on the singletrack MTB descent). Her trip to Grinduro was bookended by a 4th place at Rooted VT ahead of the trip, and afterwards 3rd place at the last gravel event of her season, Vermont Overland, ahead of her switch to cyclocross and taking on her first World Cup CX season!
Bikepacking.com Awards 2021: Emily Cheng had an amazing year: contributing two brand new weekender routes to Bikepacking.com, winning a Best New Routes award, crushing out an incredible 3 week adventure in Iceland that she will be sharing soon and in general continuing to be an incredible photographer and adventurer. We shared her Oregon trip and North Bay Overnighter.
BCBR Gravel: The first year for BC Bike Race’s Gravel Explorer, we were excited to be on the ground with Overland’s Amity Rockwell as well as CNCPT’s Sammi Runnels and Lucas Strain. The event was a unique take on West Coast gravel and we’re excited to see what they have in store for 2022 as the event grows.
First CX WC Season: While our athletes often change to other Easton-supported teams during the CX season (Michael on Giant Easton, Caroline on Team Rock Lobster), we were excited to have Caitlin flying the Overland colors as she forged ahead through her first World Cup Cyclocross season. Though the season is not yet finished, we are excited to share her 3rd place at Pan Ams that followed her first UCI podium at Really Rad CX the weekend before.
As we wrap up 2021, we want to say thanks again to our partners:
Castelli Cycling - Schwalbe Tires - Shimano Gravel - Camelbak - Giro Helmets - Orange Seal - 100% Eyewear - Arundel Bicycle Co.
To stoke the fire for 2022 we are excited to introduce a new member to Easton Overland:
Rob Britton, long-time Easton-supported athlete and a rider often found Doing Hard Things joins Overland for 2022.
You can expect a longer, more formal introduction to Rob, his plans (including the Life Time Grand Prix), and his work with Wirth surrounding mental health in the coming months.
Happy New Year and here’s to even more in 2022!
